Abstract
В статье рассматривается творчество Джеймса Босуэлла, получившего широкую известность в основном благодаря своей дружбе с Сэмюэлом Джонсоном. Но даже если бы они никогда не встретились, Босуэлл, так или иначе, сумел бы занять свою нишу в литературе XVIII века. Он опубликовал серию статей для «Лондонского журнала» (1777–1783). Он убедил Сэмюэла Джонсона, которому было уже шестьдесят четыре года, совершить путешествие в Шотландию и на Гебридские острова. Джонсон написал отчет об этом путешествии под названием «Поездка к Западным островам» (1775). Босуэлл опубликовал свой отчет об этом путешествии через год после смерти Джонсона (1785).
