Travel and tourism is an important key for accelerating and expanding economic development, investment and employment in Armenia with visitor numbers increasing year-on-year, growing private and public investment, and broad consumer satisfaction. Furthermore, according to Armenia’s National Development Strategy 2014–2025, tourism is one of five priority sectors for job creation. The strategy indicates that incoming tourism should retain its role as the second main export sector and will account for around 20 percent of exports.

«Mutual trade and economic cooperation between Armenia and Georgia»

Download an article

The article is devoted to the mutual trade and economic cooperation between Armenia and Georgia. The author points out that current political situation in the South Caucasus region and balance of power contribute to creation of preconditions for the development of Armenian-Georgian relations and raise them to a qualitatively new level. These relations are based not on political, but on trade economic benefit-oriented considerations. The author comes to the conclusion that political and economic cooperation between Armenia and Georgia is in many ways based on trade and energy transit through Georgian territory and it is comparatively small, though it keeps gradually growing. For example, already in 2017 Georgia was the sixth largest trade partner of Armenia in export volume (USD 155212.5 thousand).

«Foreign direct investment inflow in Armenia by sectors after joining to EAEU»

Download an article

In the post-Soviet period, foreign direct investment (FDI) was an important factor for the Armenian economy. The limited natural resources and size of the country, as well as the geopolitical position of Armenia, foreign direct investment has played an important role in the economy, and, in particular, in knowledge-intensive industries. In general, the major investors are interested in operating and investing in those sectors, which are considered to have comparable advantages and also a great export potential of the given countries. After joining EAEU, as my research shows, the investments were directed to the following 10 sectors, which is presented by details in the article.

«The San Remo conference and the Armenian question (April of 1920)»

Download an article

Present article presents the Armenian Question during the Conference of San Remo (April of 1920). The Allied Supreme Council discussed the question of a mandate for Armenia and the delimitation of its boundary. The Supreme Council pledged to support Armenia politically, military and financially. The Allied leaders agreed that the Armenian provinces of Erzerum, Van, Bitlis, as well as Trebizond (which would ensure access to the Black Sea) were integral parts of Armenia. The Supreme Council requested, after the consent of Armenian and Turkish sides, U.S. President Woodrow Wilson, as a neutral party, to delimit the boundary between Armenia and Turkey. President Wilson agreed and in accordance with international law made the Arbitrary Award (November 22, 1920), which established the legal state boundary between Armenia and Turkey.

Catholism penetrated into the province of Nakhijevan at the beginning of the XIV century by French and benediktyan religious men. Being situated in the trading crossroads of East and West it created a great Armenian catholic community and made deep influence on developing economic, political and cultural links in Nakhijevan region. In the middle of XVIII century a part of Armenian catholics living in Nakhijevan province adopted muslim religion, others moved away because of unstable governing system of Persian state, heavy taxes, absence of security for life and property and the violation of dignity.
