The article is devoted to consideration of what had Russia entered the North War for. The article gives a detailed analysis of concepts of Russian historians created in XVIII – the beginning of XX centuries. The following conclusions are drawn: there were two reasons for Russia to enter the war. Firstly, to return primordial Russian lands, which were lost in the Time of Trouble.
