В статье предпринимается попытка исследования роли природных стихий в повести «Вешние воды» для раскрытия идейно-художественного смысла произведения, определения особенностей тургеневской концепции любви, выраженной в повести. Выявляется, что мотивы и сравнения, связанные со стихиями солнца, солнечного света, света звезд, теплого вихря способствуют созданию образа возвышенной, чистой, идеальной, одухотворенной любви, обладающей преобразующим началом (любовь Санина и Джеммы). Порывы ветра, гул грозы символизируют стихию страсти, лишающую человека воли и превращающую его в раба (страсть Санина к Полозовой). В повести показана амбивалентность любовного чувства.

An attempt to specify the typology of female images in the novels of I.S. Turgenev is made in the article. Three main variations are revealed: "Turgenev`s girl", possessing high spirituality, purity, strength of character; "infernal woman," having something magic, correlated in the works of the writer with the motive of love-power; a woman-mother, in which, on the one hand, the features of the lady mistress of the aristocratic estate, hungry for adoration, worship, which carries a shade of falsehood, are pointed out, and on the other hand, the mother of the family, giving her relatives warmth and love. However, all female images are described with psychological realness and depth.
