modern electronic communication offers people new texts in different spheres of knowledge and in different utilitarian spheres. Most of these texts are hypertexts that have a multi-layered structure and consist of integrated microtexts. The purpose of this investigation is to give definitions to hypertext, consider its features, peculiarities of its structure, its types and functions. According to the analysis, hypertext is characterized by coherence, meaningfulness, informativeness and combination of verbal and non-verbal means.
