the article describes the essence and role of intellectual development of the head of an educational organization in the conditions of innovative economy. It also reveals the content of managerial competence as a main factor of increasing the intellectual development of the head and his/her social effectiveness. The components, criteria and indicators of managerial competence of the head of the educational organization have been determined.
