Orthodox prayer practices, such as Jesus Prayer, Hesychasm, and mindful prayer, play an important role in the spiritual life, forming a special state of mind, attention and self-control. The study draws on work in religious philosophy, neuropsychology, and cognitive psychology to analyze how regular prayer practice affects cognitive function and can promote neuroplasticity
