The article examines the method of employing flashcards as an unconventional approach for the acquisition and retention of new vocabulary in the English language. This article is devoted to the teaching of foreign language vocabulary in the context of the communicative approach to language teaching. The author made the analysis of the questionnaire filled by 6th grade students of general secondary education institution.
