The concept of “cloud technologies” is considered in this article, which over the past decade has provided Internet users with great opportunities, both integrated physical resources, and various program services. The types of "cloud infrastructure" and the possibility of their use in the educational process are investigated. software services available for online learning are enumerated.

The basic directions of development of the University information educational environment during the training of seafarers on the basis of the development of a distributed infrastructure of technical and software systems, implementation of virtual simulators to modelling conditions of quasiprofessional activity of seafarers have been formulated. The necessity of development of e-learning technologies for practical training on real physical hardware has been justified.

The article describes the possibilities of cloud computing application to make business and educational process more effective. Cloud computing gives an opportunity to optimize the activity, to increase the effectiveness of work in almost every aspect of livelihood, right up to solving the personal tasks of an ordinary user.

Student learning takes place as scheduled in the computer lab and at home on their own computers in thin client mode and cloud technologies. In line with the studied material discipline, students can take advantage of the cloud services. Attracting innovative methods has allowed roughly halved to intensify the process of learning material, boost academic performance (approximately 40–50%) and dramatically improve motivation to study discipline.
