the problem of enhancing students’ motivation to foreign language learning is considered in this article. In this context a special place is taken by the methods of foreign language teaching on the basis of native language and learning language comparison, identification of language specific features and common features inherent to different languages, language universals. The cognitive approach to language description, its presentation in large groups through semantic fields and functional-cognitive spheres contribute to that.
