The article discusses the concept of spontaneous preschool play, its key characteristics and functions in child development. The psychological and pedagogical approaches to understanding spontaneous play and its differences from organized play activities are analyzed. Special attention is paid to the role of such a game in the formation of a child's cognitive, social and emotional competencies.
