In order to determine the effective mechanism for the implementation of industrial policy, this article analyses the stages of economic development of the country. On the basis of the research carried out and the study of the legal and regulatory framework governing economic policy in Russia, stages have been identified that fundamentally change the forms and methods of influence on its development, as well as the main features of economic policy that have affected the formation of the country 's industry. Characteristics of modern industrial policy are identified, including transition to national industrial policy
