The article is devoted to the development of the skill of artistic intonation in the process of teaching Chinese clarinet students at music universities. The main factors influencing the tuning of the instrument are identified, and the necessity of deconstructing the associative link between low overtones and low tuning is substantiated. The essence of artistic intonation is revealed, and the need to expand the arsenal of means of artistic interpretation is identified. The conditions for learning to play musical instruments in the PRC are taken into account, and additional difficulties faced by clarinetists in the process of studying at universities in China are outlined.

The article is devoted to the formation of the performing breath of a musician play-ing a wind instrument. The current classifications of types of performing breath, methods of its formation are analyzed, and recommendations are given for master-ing rational performing inhalation and controlling exhalation. Conclusions have been drawn that in teaching the playing of wind instruments, it is advisable to mas-ter performing breathing through separate methods of taking breath – abdominal, solar plexus, and chest – followed by combining them into a mixed inhalation; the performing exhalation should be diaphragmatic, in most cases stable in strength, and to control it, the performer regulates the speed of the air stream.
