This article is devoted to the teaching of foreign language vocabulary in the context of the communicative approach to language teaching. The author made the analysis of the questionnaire filled by 6th grade students of general secondary education institution. The aim of the article is to identify some of the features of teaching foreign vocabulary, as well as to provide an analysis of ways to create conditions for improving speech skills of students.

«Usage of contemporary literature in foreign languages in class»

The main purpose of every teacher is to help students understand the language and increase their motivation in learning foreign languages. One of the most effective methods in motivating is the usage of contemporary literature in class. The main advantages of such literature as well as the requirement about how to choose the necessary literature are mentioned in this article. The research is also stating the necessity of using foreign literature in the context of different competence including the linguistic and social and cultural ones, including different points of approaches on this subject – personal, communicative and integrated. The example in the work is taken from the book «Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire» by J.K. Rowling.
