«From soldier to marshal: the origin of the ranks of the French army»
This article discusses one of the fragments of the lexical system of the French language – the origin of terms denoting military ranks in the armed forces of France. The etymological analysis is carried out in close connection with the concrete historical situation which gave rise to the need of such language units. The author outlines the practical basis of the comparative study of the ways of lexical designation of ranks in the major European languages, including Russian.

«The poetry of Khantysk story (on the example of stories chain E. Aipin’s “The time of the Rains”)»
The article gives an analysis of the artistic structure of the heroic epos of the Khanty people as the source of the national story development in the Khanty literature. As a result of the research it was discovered that the process of transformation of epic motives and themes into literary text as well as peculiarities of styles and poetic figures of speech dating back to folklore intervenes according to the author’s individual, cultural and axiological worldview.

«Cognitive comparative analysis of «civilization» and «culture» concepts in Russian and English languages»
The article considers content-based links between the concepts of «civilization» and «culture» in the Russian and English languages. The purpose of the study is comparing their content-based components in the lexical semantic fields of verbalization of the concepts under consideration in the Russian and English languages. The research employs the method of cognitive comparative analysis. The analysis of lexical and semantic composition reveals similarities and differences in their structuring in the English and Russian languages. According to the author the result of comparison suggests implications that the concepts under study are perceived differently by the representatives of the Russian and English cultures and contributes to the revelation of national peculiarity of conceptualization of cognate phenomena in the mentality of different peoples.

«Translation of novels by Georges Simenon as a form of dialogue between cultures»
This article examines the literary translation as a normative value system of contacting cultures, reveals its intercultural and communicative functions. The role and place of literary translation as one of the most important tools for building relationships in the international community is defined. This problem is solved by the example of the translation of novels by the French writer J. Simenon in the Russian language. The author of the article analyzes the errors made in the translation and reveales their negative role in the dialogue of cultures.

«Oral speech teaching to students of mathematic specialties: a grammatical aspect»
The paper considers teaching features of English speech grammar aspects. The case studies include undergraduates of mathematical specialties. The content of students’ educational activity at the final stage of language teaching is pointed out. Besides the structure of grammar section, a special didactic training unit in which framework mastering grammar phenomena used in oral speech takes place is described.

«The question of students’ motivation to learn foreign languages increasing (cognitive approach, language universals)»
The problem of enhancing students’ motivation to foreign language learning is considered in this article. In this context a special place is taken by the methods of foreign language teaching on the basis of native language and learning language comparison, identification of language specific features and common features inherent to different languages, language universals. The cognitive approach to language description, its presentation in large groups through semantic fields and functional-cognitive spheres contribute to that.

«К вопросу работы с текстом в процессе преподавания русского языка как иностранного в УГГУ, г. Екатеринбург»
Статья посвящена методике преподавания русского языка как иностранного в Уральском государственном горном университете. В данной работе рассмотрены принципы, подходы организации преподавания русского языка как иностранного. Представлены особенности смоделированного многофункционального учебного текста и возможности работы с ним в конкретных условиях профессионального образования в университете. Методический прием «текст – таблица – текст» рассмотрен в плане информативного, коммуникативного и личностно-ориентированного подхода в преподавании русского языка как иностранного. Предложена практика составления дотекстовых и послетекстовых таблиц. Охарактеризованы возможности составления таблицы к тексту для развития языковой, речевой, а также коммуникативной компетенции в таких видах, как страноведческая и лингвокультурологическая.
